The arcades in Japan are insane. There is so much color and noise everywhere you look. They're quite popular among any and every age group too. We walked around one all touristy with our cameras out and ready but no one really noticed because they were too busy losing their money and winning some prizes.
Japanese Thomas the Tank Engine! This is basically those things you see at the front of supermarkets where you put a quarter in and out pops some silly toy. Except in Japan, that silly toy is usually a cell phone charm. They really do love their cell phone charms over here. Even the men have things dangling from their phones! The cutest Mike Wazowski (from Monsters, inc.) I have ever seen! In Japan, Disney characters are not all super duper popular, instead they seem to kind of pick and choose which ones they like. Obviously Mickey and Minnie, Winnie the Pooh, the white kitten from the Aristocats, and a few others maybe. Stitch (from Lilo & Stitch) is big too, he seems to pop up on every other corner.
The other games we came across were virtual horse racing, virtual bingo, street fighter, slot machines, and more! No Ski-ball though, guess that's an American thing.
Purikura! crazy Japanese photobooth, it's a lot of fun. The system kind of automatically changes your eyes to make them giant and round. I'll try and scan the photos and post it.
